UK, Australia, and Canada all require that any "was price" (reference price) you show alongside a sale price must be genuine, recent, and verifiable. The rules differ slightly — UK CMA says 28 days, Australia ACCC says "reasonable period", Canada says "ordinary price" — but the principle is the same: you cannot invent a higher "was price" to make a discount look bigger.

How it works (5 minutes to live)
- Install — select your primary market (UK / AU / CA / EU). The app syncs your catalog.
- Add the block — in the theme editor, insert the Price Proof block on the product template where the "Was" price should appear.
- Run a sale — when you set a discount, the block shows the substantiated prior price only if it passes the benchmark. If it fails, the block stays hidden and the dashboard flags the product.
- Export CSV anytime — open the dashboard and click "Export Price Proof CSV" for a complete audit file.
What this app is / isn't (honest framing)
- It does not decide whether a discount is legal — it applies the published benchmark rules. Edge cases (e.g., clearance, bundle pricing) still require your judgement.
- It does not file anything with authorities — the CSV is for your records or to hand over if asked.
- It only tracks prices on your store — it cannot see competitor prices or external marketplaces.
- Price history is retained per market rules (UK 28 days, AU/CA rolling). Older data is automatically purged.
FAQ
Does this guarantee CMA/ACCC/Competition Act compliance?
No tool can guarantee compliance — obligations depend on your pricing practices, how you present discounts, and whether the "was price" was genuinely offered. The app applies the published benchmarks; you must still apply them correctly in your theme.
Can I customize the wording?
Yes. The block renders a short template ("Was {{prior_price}} (lowest in 28 days)") that you can edit in the theme editor.
What happens if a product fails the check?
The Price Proof block does not render on the product page, and the product appears in the dashboard with a red flag. You can adjust the price or the reference period and re‑check.
